Udaipur - The city of Lakes

This city is built by Rana Udai Singh II . Rana Udai singh was on a pilgrimage with his son where he met a hermit Goswami Premgiriji while hunting in the ranges, who blessed him to built his palace at this place. So Rana Udai Singh decided to shift his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur. 

This city has multiple lakes and a glorious history.

 The City palace is a beautifully constructed and expanded building honestly covering the complete palace would take two days, so a part of the fort is dedicated to tourists. The entry ticket here is INR 300 per head. One half of the fort is reserved for the current  royal family of Maharana Arvind Singh ji, the current heir of the Maharanas and his family resides there.

 

Lake Pichola.

This lake is close to Karni mata Temple. You can visit the Karni mata temple via ropeway and then come down to Dudh Talai Lake which is connected to Lake Pichola. You can have a boat ride in Lake Pichola where you can see the Jag Mandir. If you are here in the evening you can view the beautiful sunset, and a splendid view of the City Palace.

Fateh Sagar Lake

A huge lake for a lovely evening walk or morning walk. you can visit the Mahara Pratap Smarak off this lake. It has a model of various forts like Kumbalgarh, Chittorgarh and Palaces and the history of the generations who built this city to what it is today. You can enjoy a boat ride here as well.

Sajjan garh Fort(Monsoon Palace)  and Saheliyon ki baari on the same route and can be visited one after the other.

The Sajjan garh or the Monsoon Palace was built by Rana Sajjan. It was his idea to harvest monsoon rain water, thus he built his palace and he alse lived here during monsoons and this is built on a hill away from the city.

Saheliyon ki baari was built for the Queens maidens. You may visit this for some floral pictures or skip this if you are short of time.

Traveling can be done as per your convenience in a car or an auto no need to pre book. You have to ask and bargain the fare whether you go by car or auto.

There are multiple shopping streets in Udaipur city. You can visit the hathi pol for a Bandhani or Bandhej saris and dresses. Some unique and antique wall hangings to decorate your home.

1. Jai Kamal Restaurant, Udai Pol

This is close to Udaipur railway station. Here is one of THE BEST aloo pyaz ka paratha.


2. Jagdish Mishthan Bhandar

Visit this one for cripsy orange imartis, soft gajak,gajar ka halwa, kachoris.

3. Dal Baati Churma @ Kamlesh bhojnalay

There are various local restaurants serving dal baati with desi ghee and garlic chutney. It costs Rs 80 per plate. I am sure you will leave with a smile after this meal
